Biblical Basis for Social Action

Why should all Christians and churches be involved in helping people in need? It’s what Jesus did (Luke 4:18-19, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) and He’s our Lord. Followers of Jesus should follow Jesus (I John 2:6).  It’s simply God’s will! Few topics are addressed more often in Scripture than the poor and the way God’s people are to minister to them. Ministry to the poor and needy is clearly part of a godly lifestyle.

There are over 400 scriptures in the Bible on caring for the needy. We couldn’t even fit them on this page, but I want to share a few with you. Why should we serve others? Let’s let God answer that question:

Leviticus 19:9-10 Mark 12:29-31  (14:7)
Deuteronomy 15:7,11  (24:19-21)  (26:12) Luke 3:10-11  (10:30-37)  (12:33)  (16:19-25)
Proverbs 19:17  (21:13)  (29:7)  (31:8-9) Acts 2:44  (4:32-35)
Isaiah: 58:6-10 Galatians 2:9-10
Jeremiah 5:28-29  (22:3) Ephesians 4:28  (5:1)
Ezekiel 16:48-50  (22:29-31) Hebrews 10:24
Amos 2:6-8  (5:11-12, 24) James 1:27  (2:14-17)
Matthew 5:13-16  (6:2)  (9:35-38)  (20:28) I John 3:16-18
 (22:34-40)  (25:31-40)

As Bible-believing Christians, our statement of faith says that “the Bible is our authority for our faith and practice”. (What we believe and what we do). James says that we should be doers of the word and not just hearers. I invite you to read a few of these scriptures and let God speak to you. All followers of Jesus should follow Him in service to others. Please contact us if we can connect you and your church to opportunities to serve in our community. If all followers of Jesus followed Him by serving others, it would transform our community.

It’s clearly God’s will!
